The Amorphous Fixation Measure Revisited: with Applications to Autism
نویسندگان
چکیده
The analysis of eye-tracking data hinges on the ability of automated algorithms to separate rapid saccadic eye movements from stable eye fixations. However, though it has long been known that changing the parameters of fixationidentification algorithms can lead to very different qualitative impressions, less is known about how algorithmic parameters interact with quantitative eye-tracking measures. In this study we show that by manipulating aspects of fixation identification, we can completely reverse the patterns of observed results for mean fixation duration, a measure traditionally associated with cognitive load. However, by linearly mapping mean fixation duration over its parameter space, we obtain a new formulation which addresses many of the deficits of the standard analysis. We use our methods to analyze the gaze patterns of toddlers with autism spectrum disorder and control populations and discuss the observed differences in terms of the physical and cognitive ramifications of our methodology.

Atypical Gaze Behavior in Children with High Functioning Autism During an Active Balance Task
Background. Unusual gaze behavior in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) was reported very early in the literature. Objectives. The current study examined gaze behavior in children with ASD and typically developing (TD) children while performing an active balance task on the Wii balance board. Methods: 8 children (male) diagnosed with high-functioning ASD and 9 TD children (3 female, ...
متن کاملApplication of eye tracking technology for screening and rehabilitation of children with special needs.
Eye tracking is a technology for measuring eye movements when looking at a point. The length of time to look at a particular situation, the sequence of observations, as well as points of attention are processed in the process of eye tracking and eye movements are identified by topics such as fixation, saccade, etc. Information about how the eyes move at a special moment has many potential appli...

Monte Carlo Method is used to simulate a double layer gadolinium-amorphous silicon thermal neutron detector. The detector fabricated in pixel array configuration has various applications including neutron imaging. According to the simulation results, a detector consisting of a gadolinium (Gd) film with thickness of 2-4 ~m, sandwiched properly with two layers of sufficiently thick (-30 ?µm) hydr...
متن کاملAbsence of preferential looking to the eyes of approaching adults predicts level of social disability in 2-year-old toddlers with autism spectrum disorder.
CONTEXT Within the first week of life, typical human newborns give preferential attention to the eyes of others. Similar findings in other species suggest that attention to the eyes is a highly conserved phylogenetic mechanism of social development. For children with autism, however, diminished and aberrant eye contact is a lifelong hallmark of disability. OBJECTIVE To quantify preferential a...
متن کاملThe Effect of Music-Based Blended Environment on the Development of Motor Skills in Children with Autism: A Quasi-Experimental Study
Background and Objectives: The use of integrated interventions in autistic children is expanding. Autistic childrenchr('39')s interest in music and their ability to understand it can be effective in therapeutic interventions. This study aimed to determine the effect of a music-based integrated environment on motor development skills in autistic children. Materials and Methods: This quasi-exper...
